WHY WE NEED TO LEAVE SPOKANE. Having received two dreams showing devastation to the Spokane, Washington area, Joseph Ali bin Muhammad takes a brief trip into the Dishman Hills Natural Area to explain how the geography of Spokane plus climate change have created a situation of a devastating disaster waiting to happen.
The rocky geography does not allow the millions of pine trees in the hills and mountains surrounding Spokane to root deep. The forests here survive year round almost exclusively on surface water (rain and snow melts). If they do not receive enough surface water during the fall, winter, and spring, trees dry out in the summer because they are unable to root deeply to access groundwater for their roots to reach and draw nourishment from.
Little groundwater exists within our forests because they are atop what is mostly solid rock just an inch or two below the dirt the trees are growing in. While they can draw some water hidden in crevices between rocks and some water from the rocks themselves, they cannot draw enough in this manner to maintain health.
The millions of trees surrounding the Spokane valley, home of Washington state’s second (City of Spokane) and third (City of Spokane Valley) most populous cities, are much drier than most of the local population realizes or gives thought to. People new to the area or considering moving here also have no idea.
The trees are super dry. If a dry thunderstorm occurs during the hot summer when the trees are at their absolute driest and turning yellow (the Evergreen state isn’t evergreen anymore!), the resulting fires could spread faster than any forest fire before.
People of Spokane are aware that our valley geography works against clean air, that industrial pollution gets trapped in the valley between these hills and mountains to create an air quality crisis as severe as some of America’s largest cities (Los Angeles, for example).
If all sides of the Spokane valley suddenly go up into a raging forest fire of all forest fires, and the winds are not blowing to our advantage, a great smoke will fill the sky in our valley and choke to death all who cannot get out in time. Panicked drivers rushing in zero visibility means they will crash into one another and block the roads. Escape routes will be blocked.
