Natural hazards, climate change impacts, epidemics, and pandemics pose significant threats to economic and social development in various regions across Africa.
Vulnerability to these threats is intensified in cities, where people, goods and infrastructure are densely concentrated. Technical capacity gaps decelerate progress on addressing disaster risks especially in African cities.
The Resilience Initiative Africa (RIA) project implemented by GIZ together with its partners, African Union Commission, United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Regional Office for Africa, Slum Dwellers International (SDI) and United Cities and Local Governments/ Africa (UCLG/A) organized a training titled ‘Leading the Way: Disaster Risk Reduction Training for Local Government Champions’ targeting participants from over 20 cities in Africa.
This video is a documentation of the highlights of key messages from the workshop addressing Disaster Risk Reduction at sub-national level.
