A rural Queensland town is bracing for even more rain after residents were forced to sleep in their cars overnight during a historic flooding event. Many residents in Thargomindah, which is about 1,000 km west of Brisbane, spent the evening camped out at the airport, which has doubled as a refuge and a makeshift hospital, Bulloo Shire Mayor John Ferguson said. A major flood warning remains in place for the Bulloo River, with Thargomindah recording its highest level since 1974. It was last reported at 6.95 meters, above the 51-year record of 6.78 meters, and was still rising on Monday morning.
