Millions across the Midwest and South faced widespread flooding on Monday.
At least 21 people are confirmed dead due to the severe weather outbreak. That includes a 5-year-old in Arkansas who died when a tree fell on their home and 9-year-old Gabriel Andrews who was swept away by flash flood waters in Kentucky while walking to his school bus.
Researchers said sweeping flood events like this are growing more severe amid our climate crisis.
River levels are expected to keep rising in many areas and may not begin to crest until Wednesday at the earliest.
