The Mediterranean Sea, cradle of civilizations and home to more than 500 million people, is facing unprecedented challenges due to climate change. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the Mare Nostrum region is the most threatened in Europe due to climate change. The Mediterranean is warming 20% faster than the global average, having increased by +1.5°C since pre-industrial levels, while the global average remained at +1.1°C. This documentary, produced by the Global Cities Programme at CIDOB in collaboration with Global CAD, aims to explore how rising temperatures, rising sea levels, droughts, and extreme weather events associated with climate change are affecting Mediterranean cities and their inhabitants, and how these communities are responding through climate adaptation and resilience strategies.
