I worked in Naval Air Stations as Met Officer and retired. IMD or any wx forecasting agency are working 24hours and 365 days. Progress achieved by IMD is commendable . Wx parameters data is not available uniformly to meteorologists over land and Sea. Over land and sea observatories are not available as per laid down standards and collection of data and managing data in data centre in three dimensions in thousands of square kilometers area is difficult. Models are developed and used to forecast severe wx systems improved. In 1977 Vetapalem cyclone caused great human and property loss. IMD improved its forecast and Cyclones are forecasted and lives are saved. Monsoon forecast is also improving with satellites monitoring wx systems , collection of data over Oceans . Be positive. We need more trained people and resources for achieving progress in our forecasting abilities.
