A fast-moving wildfire in the Pine Barrens of southern New Jersey forced the evacuation of about 3,000 people and temporarily shut down part of the Garden State Parkway on Tuesday.
The Jones Road Forest Fire burned roughly 8,500 acres with only 10% containment by late evening, threatening over 1,300 structures.
No injuries were reported.
The fire started amid high fire risk and drought conditions, with climate change cited as a contributing factor, Axios has reported.
Cooler temperatures and lighter winds were expected to help overnight.
