Sea level rise and frequent tides: understanding Charleston’s increasing coastal flooding

LOWCOUNTRY, S.C. (WCIV) — Here in the Lowcountry, we are surrounded by water. At least half of Charleston is made up of marshes, creeks and coastal waters.

But lately, water seems to be creeping up closer to homes a little more frequently.

Unfortunately, coastal flooding is not an unusual event for coastal South Carolina. Many are affected by it, especially in flood-prone coastal areas.
