Hellfire around the capital of Israel: The earth is burning near Jerusalem!

In late April 2025, large-scale wildfires broke out in the hills surrounding Jerusalem, affecting several towns and natural areas. The fires began near Beit Shemesh and quickly spread eastward, reaching densely populated areas and even Highway 1, the main route between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Strong winds and dry weather fueled the rapid expansion of the blaze. In response, authorities organized mass evacuations in areas such as Neve Shalom, Latrun, and Mitzpe Harel. Several hospitals, including Hadassah Ein Kerem, were also evacuated due to the threat of smoke and fire. Over 160 firefighting teams and dozens of aircraft have been deployed to combat the flames. Israel has received assistance from multiple European countries — teams and equipment from France, Italy, Spain, Croatia, and Romania have joined the firefighting efforts. Military units and volunteers are also taking part in containing the disaster. According to official reports, around 20 people, including firefighters, have sustained injuries, mostly due to smoke inhalation. The fires disrupted national Independence Day celebrations, with several events — including the official ceremony on Mount Herzl — being canceled. President Isaac Herzog addressed the nation, calling for unity in the face of natural threats and warning about the impacts of climate change. Meanwhile, police have arrested several suspects on suspicion of arson, and an investigation is underway. By early May, major fire hotspots were brought under control, but emergency services remain on high alert, monitoring for potential flare-ups.
