People in St. Louis, Mo, were caught off guard by an EF-3 tornado(135=160 mph winds.) Apparently, the sirens were not sounded leaving citizens vulnerable without warning. The mayor of St. Louis has started an inquiry into the failures of warning systems. Lives were lost unnecessarily. Gutting NOAA and cutting key staff of meteorologist will lead to lives lost.
Can we PLEASE talk about how HOAs (Homeowners Associations) are one of the most under-discussed, modern-day tools of racist control over Black homeownership? 🏠⚠
HOAs weren’t built to “protect neighborhoods” — they were designed to PROTECT WHITENESS. They started as a way to keep Black families out of certain areas — using rules, restrictions, and red tape when outright segregation became illegal. And guess what? That legacy hasn’t gone anywhere. Even TODAY, an HOA can take your home — even if it’s fully paid off. Let that sink in. You worked your whole life to own something, and a group of people (you probably never see, never meet, and never voted for) can decide you’re out for minor things like paint color, grass height, or a missed fee. That’s not homeownership — that’s modern-day sharecropping. And the wildest part? Most HOAs are still run by wealthy white folks who don’t live in the neighborhoods they “govern.” They don’t hold meetings, they don’t invest in the community, and they definitely don’t have Black homeowners' best interests at heart. They just profit off control. 📢 Black people — please research this before you buy. Don’t let anyone sell you a dream while quietly handing someone else the deed to your future. True Black growth starts with owning, protecting, and keeping what’s ours. We deserve more than a house — we deserve real power and real freedom. ✊🏾 Look it up. Learn it. Share it. And stay alert — because they’re not done trying to own us.
