In “Hurricane Helene’s Deadly Warning,” Laura Sullivan goes on the ground in North Carolina in the days after the 2024 storm and speaks with survivors who describe the devastation, fear and shock they experienced at seeing entire communities washed away. She revisits Houston, Texas, where thousands of homes remain in an area that already flooded during Harvey in 2017. Sullivan also returns to Staten Island, where, according to a former FEMA director, the billion dollar rebuilding process may not have been enough to prevent mass destruction should another Superstorm Sandy hit.
“The federal government spends more than $50 billion a year to help communities recover, including properties that have flooded repeatedly in what seems like an endless cycle of destruction and rebuilding,” says Sullivan. “Our new joint investigation examines the forces fueling this cycle, whether places that have rebuilt after devastating floods are any safer today, and how this process is now playing out in North Carolina.”
Finally, “Hurricane Helene’s Deadly Warning” looks at how, as climate change-related storms become more frequent and severe in the U.S., there are concerns that incremental attempts to mitigate against future flooding across the country aren’t going to be enough.

The CLIMATE has been changing for 3 BILLION years…. If your too stooopide to research the history of climate on planet earth SHUT UP!
Its ok, there is too many people on this planet anyways
And they voted against themselves. FEMA tried to help, and they ran them away. Then voted in a guy who wouldn't even try to help. Told no help coming. Don't feel anything for them. You voted against yourself and us. Thoughts and prayers. 😢 sad days with more heartbreak to come.
If you are promoting man-made “climate change”…you need to talk about the ways man is intensifying and creating storms. The HAARP array has patents that claim it can steer hurricanes, create lighting, intensify and steer storms…as well as affect human thoughts and emotions on a granular scale. HAARP was completed in 1983. We now have similar but more powerful technologies that are smaller and portable that can do the same and more. THAT is man-made WEATHER change.
When it comes right down to it there is no place on earth safe to live. Floods, tornados, fires, earthquakes, and volcanoes, etc.
Unblock The ☀️ And Bring Back Blue Skies; 98% Of The Weather Problems Will Be Solved
A lot of people will lose their homes and lives due to climate change. No one in the us will do a thing to change.
Making people homeless with the weather
Until, and unless humans face the real growing frequency of extreme weather events due to climate change, all areas of the country – and indeed, the world, will take turns trying to survive, pay for, and recover from unimaginable damage to everything they once knew …
Adding insult to injury, Trump wants to abolish FEMA and make the states and local communities deal with disasters.
Republicans are a threat to public safety. How and why do these people keep getting elected to office?
They want people to make their own decisions, yet surpress the information or don't want to fund the research so people can make an informed decision.
Not to be a jerk, but didn't you recently kick him out?
I live in Key West and have lost everything twice and lived through DOZENS of storms. Its where I choose to live. You won't see me on these shows.
With our current admin this will continue and become the normal.
Trump won't help you rebuild anything, and we all know his stance on "Government programs.." We are screwed.. 😮
Not climate change, but weather manipulation (cloud seeding) gone crazy. It's out of control because man cannot control the weather, try though he may.
And our “leader,” Donald Trump et. al is proceeding to disband FEMA. What the hell is mentally wrong with sadistically mad Trump?
They still voted Republican agenda so climate change is still fake…
You build towns and houses next to rivers and streams or in flood plains, or in low places "protected" by levies and dams, or you build on hillsides, this is what happens.
You never know which community the government will destroy next with their HARP
TRUMP 🎉🎉🎉
I remember when we were all going to burnup!¡because of no o zone layer that was decades ago
Oh my gosh, I'm one min in and that's enough for me. Exploiting human trgedy to push "climate change" propaganda.
When there's no peace on earth we must turn to GOD our creator, Daniel 9:4—10 May GOD JEHOVAH help us the today's generation on how to return back to HIM be blessed.
With situations like this and other natural disasters, what will people do when Fema is gone and there's no place to turn to, for help. And these days, there seems to be many more than I've ever seen in my 60,+ years. Nobody can convince me that climate change isn't a thing. We're destroying the planet. I just pray that we never have to see anything like this, again. But reality tells me differently. May God bless all of the victims. 🙏🙏🙏
Utter damn bullshit.
Only the sun drives the climate
What now that FAMA's gone?
Back in the late 60’s, I was on a family vacation with my siblings and parents. We lived in Ohio. We traveled for 3 weeks and spent much of the time in Az and Colorado. It was August. All six of us were camped in a small pop up trailer my dad pulled with his Oldsmobile station wagon. It rained so hard non stop for days. We were at the Chief Hosa camp ground above and about 45 min west of Denver at 7,700 ft elevation. One night, my dad kept going out to check things with his flash light.
After a few checks, he came in and immediately woke us, said it was an emergency, we had to pack it up, he hooked the trailer & before we left, ran to all the camp neighbors to tell them he believed flooding was imminent and life threatening. Some sprang to action, some got angry with him disturbing their sleep. Told him it could not happen in that high mountain location. He argued we were all in a draw and could include mud and rocks.
We left the camp sight and drove to the lodge where my father said we would stay the night sitting in there. It was a safe location.
He also told workers he thought campers were in extreme danger.
Slowly more people followed in to the lodge. Toward very early morning, desperate soaked people came in, covered in mud, terrified. The flood came, their things were washed away and they barely managed to survive. Even their vehicles were wrecked.
All of them thanked my father. He was a hero, always aware of nature and power of water.
No one needs government to tell them if they use sense. It rained for days before the hurricane. People sometimes forget just how things really are in this world, and how easily and quickly they can dramatically change.
B..b bbbb…. BULLSHIT!! PBS NO SUCH THING!
rebuilding in repeat flood areas is something, especially without mitigations in place… well the money usually wins, doesn't it.
And now Trump is gutting FEMA. More people are going to suffer and a LOT of them are his OWN supporters.
RIP Omar 💖🙏
And the 🍊💩 has already cut funds for disaster relief. Tax cuts for billionaires, and also a bonus if u want to buy silencers or a tanning bed for your house, all the most important stuff. 🙄
And of course, he pulled out of all climate agreements, has defunded NOAA and NWS…all the things that help prepare for and prevent worse storms.
There was so so many more places than asheville like 400 miles of devastation of homes ripped off mts or blocked with roads gone Totality shocking and this wasnt even only state of damage just largest aka ground zero
. Shouldnt go to bed without solving those issues. If not They Follow You Into Tomorrow. Tell The Ones You Love Everyday you Love Them.. Tomorrow Is Never Promised
Climate Change? Hmmm…Hardly 😶🙄
Google- Weather Modification Corporations
Weather Warfare.
Deep State Created Weather Warfare.
NC should pass legislation banning all weather modification.
This is not a climate related problem this is weather not climate.
You mention Harvey that storm hit Port Aranass near Corpus Christi,Houston is where the storm went.
You act like Iike we never had storms, look back at the 1940 to the 1960s and you will see big bad storms .
I'm favoured only God knows how much I praise Him🎉👏, $230k every 4weeks! | now have a big mansion and can now afford anything and also support God's work and the church.
There are no new climate issues, that is not what this is. This is not just the tropical storm there was allready 3 feet of rain before the TS rain. So this is 2 seperit storms that came together. This is not a single issue. The fact that they have not said any thing about that.
