To analyse flood patterns over a 100 years is interesting but it's not a guarantee for scientic deduction that climate change is responsible. When the Pacific Highway By Pass was being constructed, extensive studies on where runoff water was going to occur had to be carried out so as to prevent flooding where previous there had been none. One hundred years – in 1915, Australia's population was roughly 4 million people. In 2025 the population is 26 million. With a huge population comes huge infrastructure- roads, houses, skyscrapers- tonnes and tonnes of concrete, bull dozers changing the lay of the land. Flash flooding occurs because the storm drains just can't cope with the water pooling at its lowest point.
