Part of what has limited Russia and has driven much of the geopolitical issues is they have not had access to a year round warm water port in the west. They are too easily blockaded. Hemmed in by NATO. Global warming now opens up sea passages previously unnavigable so it will change global trade routes. It is also likely to open up large areas of siberia which were otherwise permafrost that may become arable land and more habitable.
