A huge mass of rock and ice from a glacier has thundered down a Swiss Alpine mountainside. Authorities say it covered with mud or destroyed about 90% of a village that was evacuated earlier this month. Police say one person is missing. Swiss glaciologists have repeatedly expressed concerns about a thaw in recent years that’s attributed in large part to global warming. It has accelerated the retreat of glaciers in Switzerland, which has the most glaciers in Europe. Wednesday’s mudslide also blocked a river, so the situation could worsen.
