Before the Flood (2005)
Director: Paul Lindsay
Writers: Peter Bennetts, Paul Bell
Genre: Documentary
Language: English
Release Date: 2005
Synopsis:
Until it was announced that Prince William and Kate Middleton will visit Tuvalu in 2012 on the first royal visit since 1982, you’d probably never heard of this island.
The tiny nation is in the middle of the South Pacific covering an area the size of Central Park. Once the world’s third poorest country, in 1999, at the height of the dot com boom, it sold its internet domain name – ‘.tv’ – for $50 million.
The only catch: Tuvalu is just 3 metres above sea level – and global warming is causing the seas to rise. The film looks at the impact of the impending disaster, and asks what the residents feel with a homeland that is soon no longer to exist.
