Good information 😊. I live on the northern East Coast of NZ. The May 2021kermadec earthquakes were good practice runs. Everyone got to high ground. We are well aware of the risk and there is ongoing education. I've been through two other scary earthquakes in other parts of NZ. It definitely pays to be prepared.
The whole western edge of the ring of fire, from Japan to the Kermedec's, had big quakes again today, after this clip was posted.
I think the title of this item is rather alarmist. Some people might lose sleep if think they are doomed. In danger would be more appropriate .

Having been here for both the christchurch quakes, i would say the likelyhood the quake happens while you are at home where your preperations are stored, is around 50/50.
First one i was in town, and it took over 3 hours to get 30kms home., in a 4wd. So best you keep some stuff in your vechiles. Also some cash, as eftpos machines and checkout tills fuel pumps etc will be dead. Odds are cellphones will be down, or limited service too. Power and water will be off, and sewage plants as well, so it will no flushing allowed, even if you have water.
Personally i have generators and fuel still, and some food and water supplies, despite those quakes being 12 years ago.
The sound of a big one is amazing, if you have ever stood near a railway line, while a long heavy frieght train is approaching and going past, you have some small idea of what its like.
I'm surprised that the massive eruption of the Hunga Tonga Ha'Apai volcano in 2022(?) didn't get a mention here,being at the top end of this arc !…..?

Even if we know that a tsunami is coming, there is little we can do about it, except heed the warnings, panic and kiss our loved ones goodbye.
The Kermadec arc is perpendicular – not adjacent to New Zealand's north Island. Maybe any tsunami generated when the big one happens will radiate east and west and not impact the North Island to the south so severely? I think similar happened in the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami in Indonesia.

Ryo Tatsuki, the Japanese "nostradamus" Has an interesting record of fulfilled predictions and she said that in 1996 she dreamt of a huge earthquake in Tokyo in two weeks time for July 5 2025.

Ajout: les séismes superficiels de magnitude 6 sont de l’intra-arc (extensifs), pas des séismes de subduction.

Live in a permanent state of fear? No thank you. We had a tsunami warning, roads out of town were pretty much at a standstill and my car was rearended by a texting driver. The tsunami was nothing more than a couple of large ripples. Lucky that time.
We like to think that it's not a problem if there are lots of earthquakes. It's constant pressure release. You worry when there are none.
