At least 13 people have died and over 20 girls remain missing after torrential rains triggered catastrophic flash flooding in Kerr County, Texas. The Guadalupe River surged 26 feet in just 45 minutes, sweeping away cars and flooding a summer camp with over 750 children. Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick called it “a very tough day for Texas,” warning the death toll may rise as search and rescue efforts continue. Most campers are safe, but dozens are still unaccounted for, with helicopters, drones, and rescue swimmers deployed across the region. Local officials said the flooding struck with almost no warning, leaving little time for evacuation. More heavy rain is forecast in the coming days, raising fears of further disaster.

Any person can request the Kerrville floodplain map through using the Open Records Request form. County Commissioners vote on "variances" for unethical developers to build in the floodplain. You hear County Count Judge Rob Kelly asking for prayers for the dead. Check how many building and development projects he and his court have voted to approve.
This is not a catastrophic flood. It is rain. Water falls from the sky and it runs downhill. This has happened for millennium in the hill country. The problem is County Commissioners have approved "variances" for development in the floodplain.

As a native Texan, I know how it can occasionally come a sudden flash flood. I remember, as a kid, being able to swim in the lower areas near our property after one of these deluges. And, also, these campgrounds are commonly located in flood planes, where land is cheap. Hopefully, many more kids will be found unharmed! 🙏
