Impact Chains are a conceptual model based on cause-effect chains that include all major factors and processes leading to specific climate risks. First developed by Eurac Research for climate risk assessments (CRAs) in the European Alps around ten years ago, they have since been applied in nearly twenty national CRAs worldwide — including in countries such as Burundi, Bangladesh, Thailand, Vietnam, and Madagascar.
This training session covers the key terminology and concepts behind climate risk and CRA in general. These serve as a foundation for understanding Impact Chains and how they are built. After a brief look at current research directions at Eurac Research, the session ends with a hands-on demonstration of how to build a simple Impact Chain for a basic CRA scenario.
