Government says people building homes on flood plains has contributed to the destruction and loss of life in the Eastern Cape this week.
Residents in places like Mthatha and Butterworth are being housed in temporary shelters after their homes were submerged in flood water.
It’s not clear how many will be able to rebuild or be resettled on safer ground. Let’s talk about this now with Hangwelani Magidimisha-Chipungu, a Professor of Town and Regional Planning at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
