How social media can help when a disaster strikes

Social media represent a growing data source to support response in the early hours and days of a disaster, when an early response is critical and time-sensitive.

Researchers at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre can use artificial intelligence to process social media posts and automatically identify areas affected by a disaster.
