  1. Population is not a problem in the west. Most Western nations have stable or declining population. The 3 billion people added to the world population will come from the poorest of countries.

  2. It's in the interest of rich capitalist nations to get poor people and countries out of poverty. A guy living on 1$ a day can't afford an Iphone or a Ford, a guy making 15,000$ a year can (which is probably where today's world lower upper class is).

  3. Chinese factory workers are part of the global middle class usually making a little less or around 10$ a day. They can afford toilets, daily showers, clean water, variety of food and electricity.
They can even afford an Iphone if they really wanted too.

There are 3-4 billions of people around the world nowhere near being that wealthy.

  4. One big exception is the US, we use the most per capita and we are still growing at a moderate pace. Of course, China and India will over take us in pollution from energy production, if they haven't done so already.

  5. SO, what has to happen here is that the West finds a technological solution to energy that does not produce carbon thereby allowing the poorer countries to burn cheap fossil fuels till they too can go to the next level.

  6. Talk about optimistic! More likely we will see a mass die off of the Human species by between 50 to 90% due to extreme warming causing mass food/water shortage due to permafrost and arctic methane emissions. Nature will take over the warming and there isn't much we can do about it.

  7. Well of course, I agree with man made climate change.
But let me ask you ,who made all these man ? Did Rosling breed ? The biggest contribution one can make towards the destruction of the earths biosphere is the creation of more humans, especially western children like he himself indicated . The ecological footprint that comes with breeding is unsurpassed….. I am not responsible for me being on earth but I am responsible for the human climate changers conceived by me . Therefore I choose not to breed., most people however choose to be self interested hypocrites like Rosling was……

  8. We currently produce 38 billion tons of carbon which is only carbon dioxide through burning fossil fuels and industry there is an estimated 3 trillion trees worldwide an average tree converts 32kg of carbon into oxygen per year now times
32 x 3 trillion = 96 trillion tons of carbon removed from the atmosphere, which leaves an excess of 95 trillion 5962 billion + of carbon absorbing trees that need carbon but don't get it. The more trees we have the more carbon is needed, when the dinosaur became extinct which happened suddenly the less co2 was produced and the less oxygen was produced stunting tree and animal life worldwide as the less oxygen you have limits growth. Simple isn't it do your own research people climate change is the biggest scam in history. The earth is always moving sometimes we get closer to the sun and sometimes we get further away hence ice ages and city's that are now under water. You have all been had by the biggest scam in history

  9. "They copy the rich"

Huh? They've developed their economy. Wealth is a byproduct, not the cause. He seems to be upset there are very poor people and also that they become polluters when reaching higher living standards. Pick one.

I'd also like to have him illustratiing with his legos how Africa's population will grow by 4 times the current U$ population by 2050.

  10. All these democrats in the US claim they care about the environment, meanwhile they happily outsource most factory jobs to China, a country with extremely high emissions. Gotta love politicians.

  11. How wonderful. We can have ten times as many people as we have now. What fun. It reminds me of the Star Trek episode where a planet was so crowded that no one could move. But this Swedish guy comes across as an extremely naive dude. Does he have no consideration for the rest of the earth’s life forms? When the human population reaches 10, 11, 12 billion people then where will Nature live? Of course, this guy doesn’t even see it. I’m so tired of people like him.

  12. Baseless optimism. So they just have to become rich to have less kids. Where do you get the resources from to lift up 6 billion people into the middle class hmmm.
Economically viable fusion energy is our only hope. or something comparable of that magnitude.

Food production, biofeul and wood for building materials all compete for landuse. It is not enough for 8 billion people. 11-12 billion is laughable.
He pulled data from his @$$.
Food Energy buidlings. These are real things that have to come from somewhere in a world that has little nature left.
No amount of lego demonstrations are getting you out of this one.

  13. The answer is simple the population growth has to be controlled , the population of earth has doubled in the last 50 years . In a couple of centuries it will be soylent green time .

  14. I would like to know the data behind the carbone emission distribution between mid-income and the wealthiest.

There might be such a pollution on which all are depending. Such as, heavy industry which supplies everybody and thus

creates huge amount of capital to the wealthiest. So in this perspective, isn't it so that the distribution is somehow

wrong? Now Rosling argues that we have renewable energy. But the problem here is the limited resources we have

on our planet and the speed which the technology needs to be adopted. He also equates that by minimizing the wealth

cap will also reduce the amount of the pollution. But is it so, because the amount of consumption will increase per

family because we need the economical drivers? Although, Rosling is pointing to the correct direction but he skips too many parameters.

This will be a big challenge for the whole ecosystem and living things that rely on all these resources.

  15. No, emissions from developed countries will remain the same or increase slightly and emissions from developing countries will sky rocket as they undergo there own industrial revolutions, mostly powered by OCG (Oil, Coal and Gas)

  16. any maybe the east needs to stop the mass pollution boom through their religious 'law' of breeding 'their' women more than even their country can provide for

  17. This will not happen methane from esas region on arctic is already poping out from sea bed. By 2032 blue ocean event will happen more methane will be released and by 2050 we will have a hothouse earth leading us to complete extinction

  18. I wonder if we humans are going to institute thoughtful population reduction programs, if we are going to be brutal, or if we are going to let systemic failures reduce population.
