Low-lying coastal areas are often the most populated parts of islands, with villages, towns, agriculture, infrastructure and tourist development competing for space. Unfortunately, coasts are also particularly vulnerable to climate hazards and weather events.
Particular vulnerabilities include loss of land and islands from sea level rise and loss of homes and lives from extreme weather events such as cyclones.
The resulting impacts – coastal erosion, infrastructure damage, flooding and salt water intrusion – present a critical challenge to many Pacific island coastlines.
Supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), the Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change (PACC) programme is the first major climate change adaptation initiative in the Pacific region. Since it began in 2009 the programme has laid the groundwork for more resilient Pacific communities that can cope with climate variability today, and climate change tomorrow.
This short video, narrated by renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, highlights the PACC projects that are working to reduce the vulnerability of island coasts.

Planning a little trip to the islands? If we don't change our actions, there will not be any lovely little vacation spots left to visit.
Such an unmistakable narration voice! Neil!!! This piece is fantastically done and a much needed topic to show people that this is is a NOW problem- not something remotely in the future… scary. It seems so unfair that the people who are feeling the most impact of climate change are the ones least responsible from it.
Beautiful film. I wish I could work doing stuff like this. :))))
So sad…We need to stop climate change ASAP…Clean energy is the way….
Also stop deforestation across the world..Rebuild our forests systems…

Shouldn't have built on an island that one day would get reclaimed. Your an intelligent man. You do know this planet has a history of climate change. So here's what we all need to do .Stop building on flood plains and next to huge bodies of water. Stop trying to claim land from the grasp of the oceans for profit and understand we can not stop climate change.
What are you gonna do control the earth's cycle's. This is the norm for a little while. If you haven't heard we are heading into an ice age . Glaciers are already growing. Depending how severe you could see water levels drop considerably.
You do know that satellites say the seas are rising at a rate of 3.0 mm/yr and this figure has been backed up by tidal gauges.
Here is a science test the so-called scientists don't want you to do.
Fill a glass of water.
Add salt.
Add ice cubes.
Mark the water level.
Wait an hour.
The water level will not raise because the ice melted.
The global warming catastrophe is a HOAX.
I call BS. Name a single global warming prediction in the last 60 years that came true, just one, I'll wait
You're smart enough to understand that the planet climate is cyclical always change longer than our life but is
Thank you for this video!
can i use some of ue footage from this video please? making one video too but just need some extra footage…..appreciate it
