Net-zero carbon emissions target ‘is absurd and would kill off industries’: Jones

Sky News host Alan Jones says “the most dangerous enemy in our country today are those on the conservative side of politics who want to appease the authors of this latest economic suicide note, net-zero carbon dioxide emissions”.
Mr Jones said a policy agenda of net-zero carbon emissions would “kill off” a number of industries in Australia through the implementation of an “absurd ideology”.
“Ideology rules the roost, but ideology doesn’t always provide jobs”.
Mr Jones said politicians are standing “silent” on this issue while trying to “appease the green left” by “playing Russian roulette with our economy”.
The target has currently been adopted by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and 80 other countries across the world.
“Net-zero carbon dioxide emissions doesn’t just mean no coal, it means no gas to cook with; it means no diesel to power trucks and heavy machinery.
“It means no exports of coal or gas; it means no meat or dairy because animals produce 14 per cent, so get rid of all agriculture”.

Well said Mr Jones! … and as you say, a net-zero carbon dioxide emissions target achieves nothing. Did you know sea ice extent in 2020 is the same as it was in 1974? It went up in 1979 and has been drifting slowly back to the levels in 1974.

I’ve realized I agree with basically all of these Sky News Headlines. Polluting industries simply must be terminated as soon as possible. This is what society does with risks to public health and threats to public security. Sky news just looks at what needs to be done and acts as though it is a scandal, but it is actually just physics and biology. Hence *net-zero carbon emissions*. What’s absurd is the political centre that avoids publicly educating people on the reality we are facing. It is also nice how sky news honestly shows the scope of the changes that are necessary. Consumption must come down. Trade and transportation are untenable. Future financial obligations were based on assumptions that are no longer true. Tourism and agriculture are going to be local. The economy is pushing the life system of this planet to the brink of survivability and it is already impossible to avoid the initial effects. However each day we are making it worse, and the effects *are not linear*. We do not change nature to suit the economy, the economy changes to suit the community.
