1. MPs Protest Against Vaccine Passes
On Wednesday, MPs joined concerned people opposite Parliament to protest against the introduction of vaccine passes in England. Similar passes have already been rolled out in Scotland and Wales. Protesters said they are economically harmful, socially divisive, and not based on science. One MP said that since vaccinated people can still get COVID, the passports do not offer as much safety as is suggested.

2. Challenges of the ‘Dash’ for Net Zero
Conservative MPs who are concerned about the cost of the government’s net-zero plan and whether it’s practical, have formed the Net Zero Scrutiny Group. The group’s Chair, MP Craig Mackinlay, told NTD’s Jane Werrell that there needs to be a slower transition to renewables and that our nation “shouldn’t be demonising gas.”

3. PM Faces Pressure Over Second Jobs Vote
MPs on Wednesday voted on whether to back a proposal from the government or the opposition, on banning MPs from taking paid directorships or consultancies. The prime minister had already started jostling with Sir Keir Starmer by unexpectedly releasing his proposal during the Labour leader’s launch event.

4. UK Inflation Leaps to 10-year High
Official figures show inflation in October was over 4%, more than double the Bank of England’s target and the highest in nearly 10 years. The sharp rise was driven by soaring energy and fuel prices. Many forecasters are expecting the Bank to raise interest rates next month.

5. World Health Organisation Warns Against Vaccine Pass Measures
The World Health Organisation’s Head of Emergencies Programme Mike Ryan has warned governments against making vaccines compulsory. He called some measures targeting unvaccinated people “extreme” and said they raise “real issues” around freedoms and human rights.
