The number of festivals in the heart of mountains with thousands of car emissions leading to melting of glaciers; episode 03 of TCM’s exclusive documentary ‘Displaced by Disaster’ explores possibilities of what can be done to save locals from becoming climate refugees.
TCM’s exclusive documentary ‘Displaced by Disaster’ delves into the catastrophic impact of climate change in the northern parts of Pakistan and how increased tourism, deforestation and unplanned urban development is paving way for disasters like landslides and flash floods in the years to come.

I have decided not to goto GB areas now. Have been there twice but not anymore to avoid negative environmental impact.
Living from the region really disappointed with the GPS person. His blame those who live there to be the cause. Yes they live there. But idiot, nonsense theory to hear that.
Where the hell is your GPS when it was require? When in 2012 some university student started to get the GPS why they were stopped?
These sort of idiot are main cause of the disaster who don't respond on time with effective measures. To let people relocate to other area. Now the are still IDPs and these idiot is talking shit.
We still do believe one can early identify the disaster by Tech. Yes it will need a lot of investment but human lifes is important.
The 60000kw electricity is again bogus, do you believe it look 7 8 years to build biamer Basha Dam than it's utilization. So calculate the 60000 kw with those years. And do we expect it will be build simultaneously. Nope for now.
Peace be there. Without these idiot theories.
I am a gB resident and pretty much worry about the full path tourist activity even to the glaciers.😢 Much more killing environment by auto mobile, moralization and waste , excess access to large number of vehicle to the top area . It's necessary to plane and organize banning is not the solution.
Not only GB i am from AJK and we are also facing environmental terrorism form tourists.
Good work keep educating.
I’m from Gilgit and we want to join the great superpower that is India 😊
Tourism is a eco bad idea in Pakkstan. Not just GB, the monuments across Pakistan.
Avalanches are common in the upper reaches of the Indus. Historically an entire Sikh military group was destroyed. Earth quakes are not due to human activity. They are from shift of tectonic plates. Plates that raised the Himalayas and the Pamir knot is highly earth quake prone. Carbon emissions from Pakistan are very low. Look where the keys were lost , not where there is the street light
Ask India about climate change caused in Pakistan.
India is in the top five polluters. The 500 million cows produce methane , twenty times more than CO2.
The thermal out put quoted is minimal compared to what India and China are doing.
The lady is complaining about litter, which is damaging, but prefers Europeans.
Only eco tourism should be allowed in vulnerable landscapes. The Ismaili community is proliferating the hospitality industry besides the free lancers and locals who own land. The GB govt should regulate it
In the name of tourism, they're depleting the natural resources of Gilgit Baltistan. As compared to Switzerland, GB has more diverse natural landscapes and ecology, however, what Switzerland has done to protect its natural resource is; they have adopted strong active sustainable management policy. Same type of active and effective sustainable policy is required in GB to protect its precious and limited natural resources. Capitalists are ruining the natural geography of GB by building concrete buildings (hotels) and unplanned infrastructure, along with GB's is the water basket of Pakistan, upon which entire Pak is dependent, thereby, considering the sensitive ecological state of GB, strong and strict environmental policies are required to protect GB's natural resources.
Wind and small water turbines are somethings that should be considered on micro scale…
We must understand that after many decades, tourism has brought economic opportunities to the people of GB, while climate change is not of our doing, it was caused by deeveloped world's relentless use of fossil fuels, and everyone is suffering. One should also remeber that himalays, karakorum and hindukush range are fold mountains, formed som 60 million years ago, and over the years are falling down and changing its formations due to wind, rain and snow erosions, and you cannot stop this erosion. Yes, you can make laws and rules on how not to destroy the landscape without discouraging tourism. Another neglected opportunity is mining of precious metals that can change the future of the people and region, but sadly no one is looking into this.
