The safeguard mechanisms deal threatens all current and future gas projects and will drive potential energy investors away from Australia, according to Nationals Senator Matt Canavan.
“It’s not going to be net zero by 2050 under this deal with the Greens – it’ll be net zero by 2024 for the gas industry,” Mr Canavan told Sky News Australia.
“That just means a whole lot of gas projects are not going to go ahead – why would you invest here if you could invest in Russia, America and the Middle East without these constraints.”
