If we had a cost benefit analysis, no sane person would spend the money we have embarked upon. The only real alternative is nuclear but the cost both financially and politically is unpalatable particularly on a country with a 4 year planning and government cycle.
"Net Zero" is a specious claim. The climate alarmists are lying to people that the Earth can "achieve" zero carbon dioxide levels in the next 30 years based on switching to "clean energy." Alternative energies have never contributed more than 3% of our energy needs and never will. Even at that, the backup systems for solar and wind require natural gas 24/7 365 to operate.
Climate alarmists foolishly don't understand or won't admit the basic function of carbon dioxide in the Earth's life cycle:
Carbon DIOXIDE is plant food. It is a necessary ingredient when plant life use sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide and water to convert it into OXYGEN through a process called PHOTOSYNTHESIS. Eliminate it and we can't breathe. Or is that the goal?
Carbon MONOXIDE is poisonous and is emitted from burning carbon-based fuels. Taken in sufficient quantity it is lethal. These are the emissions that must be reduced. ..
Do these people understand what they are for and against?

Discredited "Hockey Stick" computer models are not the stuff of scientific fact.
"Computer models do a good job of helping us understand climate but they do a very poor job of predicting it."
That is according to the late mathematical physicist Freeman Dyson of the Institute of Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey who spent 37 years studying the problem.
Dyson said, “As measured from space, the whole earth is growing greener as a result of carbon dioxide, so it’s increasing agricultural yields, it’s increasing the forests and it’s increasing growth in the biological world, and that’s more important and more certain than the effects on climate.”
He acknowledged that human activity has an effect on climate but said it is much less than is claimed. He stresses the non-climate benefits of carbon are overwhelmingly favorable.
The essential truth is that climate change theory is sophistry at its base core. It is barren of physical support and relies on the adherent to "buy in" that man is the root of all ecological damage to the environment. If man's activity were curtailed, the effects would go away. Taken to its extreme, the elimination of the human species would be the best solution to climate change.
Forget all of the "fake" climate change alarmists and their bogus claims of "man-made" destruction by increased carbon dioxide levels. Those are "sham" arguments rooted in lies.
The Earth is facing much greater change as a geo-magnetic "shift" is occurring right now. The result: the north and south poles are in the process of "flipping."
The Earth's magnetic shield, the "magnetosphere" is weakening. This is confirmed by an on going measurement of the amount of magnetic forcing pressing on Earth by the Sun.
Positive radiative forcing means Earth receives more incoming energy from sunlight than it radiates to space. This net gain of energy will cause warming.
Conversely, negative radiative forcing means that Earth loses more energy to space than it receives from the Sun, which produces cooling.
Examples of some of the most important types of forcings include: variations in solar radiation levels, volcanic eruptions, and changing levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
This is a documented recurring geophysical reversal of the magnetic poles that has catastrophic consequences for all inhabitants of the planet including human beings.
This is the true climate "crisis" we face that no amount of electric cars, solar panels or "wind farms" will prevent.
The truth is that the geophysical cycle of "mother nature" changes the Earth over extended periods of time. She is "overdue" to make momentous changes given the objective scientific data known at this time.

Imagine here in Ireland, an absolute speckle in the great Atlantic, they banned cutting turf as our contribution to mitigating climate change and now we have to import it from all the way from Germany because they are a bigger country with a bigger turf cutting quota. So if Ireland need X amount of turf, on a global scale it is the same amount being cut but now on the top of it you have to emit all those greenhouse gases during transport because we're not allowed to cut it locally. Not even mentioning the latest: wanting to cull hundreds of thousands of cattle and making this country either starve or having to import beef from South America and New Zealand for fook sake!!! We are such a small country we couldn't even have 1% impact on such a global thing like climate change but we are being whipped and completely contorted in the holy name of it. Absolute insanity.

It's not the fourth most important problem for voters. That an assertion. I would say it's more like the 25th. A 1.3 C rise over 170 years should be virtually undetectable. But every year we are told it is the hottest on record. Just how is it possible to measure less than 1 hundredth of a degree Celsius year on year? Unless we have say 1 degree in which case Florida would be like Sub Saharan Africa and the UK even over 20 years should be seeing 90f weather every summer. We were told in 1989 that the Eastern seaboard of the US would be underwater by the year 2000. It's 2023 is it?

No amount of what Britain does will not make any difference while nations like China build coal mines every week. But we cannot expect developing countries to remain mired in poverty and not enjoy the standard of living of people in the West. The only other option is for the people of the West to voluntarily renounce their standard of living and live a life of poverty and live in shacks, and so on. Will they do that? And if they did, their interest in saving the environment will fall dramatically.
There are too many people in the world and since the world population has increased by a figure approaching the population of Britain in only 9 months, when the 8 billion mark was passed, it is simply impossible for the world to solve its environmental and countless other problems. I wish it were possible but it is not. The only question is how civilization will end.
