  1. I feel bad but the reality is it's not going to stop, so either get funding from governments or non profits and think about how to build a floating town or a town on stilts or find a new home……..that's just reality.

  2. It is the people on those islands who suffer who did contribute the least to the rising sea levels. That's the moral of the story: you are fucked unless you get international aid…

  3. The GDP of Kiribati is about $300 million per year. A single billionaire could change the future for an entire people, but of course you have to be selfish to become a billionaire in the first place…

  4. This doesnt even make sense…. just look at the numerous civilization that have been submerged by sea….there was no technology then….this rise is like ant crawl when you compare with these civilizations… Dwarka – India. …

    Port Royal – Jamaica. …

Pyramids of Yonaguni Jima – Japan. …

    Lion City – China. …

    Pavlopetri – Greece. …

    Villa Epecuen – Argentina.

  5. Climate change is normal and man has had no significant impact on it. If they believe man does, they should be very upset with China, but you don't hear a word against them, neither from these people neither from the narrator.

  6. I find it pretty backwards when there is talk about the environment and saving it yet the island is littered with rubbish. Like take care of what you have if you want to save it, that should be step 1.

  7. Very sad situation with rich western nations ignoring their plight, I remember people putting up tide barriers when I was on Tarawa back in 2000 and salt water was seeping into the fresh water ground wells back then. Kiribati is not alone, neighbouring Tuvalu and the Marshall Islands also face the same problem.

  8. @dw, thank you for this sad story. I know if it was a war, USA could have pumped billions of dollars for the bloodshed but, since it's Kiribati, they will leave it sink

  9. Would I be able to use extracts of the wonderful people speaking as it is very moving? I would like to use it on some music I am writing about Kiribati. I will of course credit this clip. Thank you Nick McCann

  10. As a missionary man, i am very willing to stay in all small island countries in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, to assist all humans in preventing rising sea water levels, etc. – The Diplomat/3rd Order Preacher/Explorer/Healing Missionary Civil Engineer/Coachable Coach🇻🇦🇻🇦🙏🙏❤️🇵🇭❤️🙏🙏🇻🇦🇻🇦

  11. This is so sad. In the early 00s I was lucky enough to visit Kiribati as part of a cruise excursion. My friend and I went biking around the island. It was a magical experience. I always hoped to return someday. I feel so sad to learn of the plight of the locals and hope something can be done to preserve their homes and way of life.

  12. The islands are on the American tectonic plate shifting under the Asian plate. On the Guam site they rise and Micronesia including east goes down. The Hawaii part is is growing as well with pushing Kiribati down from the other side. These are sea volcanoes on a very active tectonic plate for 100.000's of years. In general the water level has risen around a few centimeter worldwide. The sea level rises with around 1 mm on average per year which means 3 centimeter in 30 years not 2 – 20 or more meters like you see with these island groups going under

Of course effects are cumulative but stating it's only Climate Change is false because it's only a small part of the story. Just like many other sinking islands by tectonic shifting in the area this island will suffer the same fate. In time the islands will be a trekking wildlife refuge till it fully goes under

  13. the pacific islands have no fault in hugely contributing to global warming, yet they are the first victims of the effects of global warming. so sad. may they move to lands of countries hugely contributing to global warming (not china, nobody wants to live in china)
