  1. Another Canadian here…as much as I do not like mandating such things it is needed as corporations will not move forward on their own, fast enough, to affect the kind of action needed to attempt to stem global warming.
In Ontario we have eliminated coal fired electricity generation and rely mostly on nuclear (not perfect but a good interim solution until something comes along that can replace it), hydro, gas fired, wind and solar…in approximately that order of generation.
There are some other renewables in there as well but small slivers.
Over 35% of our carbon emmisions come directly from vehicles…this is kind of the low hanging fruit of reducing carbon emmisions.
EV's are not perfect but they are the best solution at present to start getting our carbon output under control. We bought our first EV 18 months ago and will never buy another ICE vehicle. No issues, we just completed a 43 day 14,648 km road trip throughout the US and Canada and it was fantastic!
There are still many challenges ahead with EV adoption but they can be overcome…the fear of EV's is ridiculous. So I agree with the mandate being put in place…that being said our Governments (Federal, Provincial and Municipal) have a lot of work to do in the mean time! IMHO of course!

  2. I'm getting a little tired of how they completely disregard the emissions required to make that new vehicle. Since EVs don't last as long as old style engines, and since mining for raw materials is so energy dependent, the story is a mirage. Meanwhile they do nothing about home heating, which is a bigger problem….

  3. Also! Let’s not forget the carbon emissions emitted to produce the batteries of an EV. Because as we produce and consumer more EVs, the carbon emissions generated during the production of these EVs and their batteries may actually offset the reduction of carbon emissions from fossil fuels such as gasoline and diesel burned by ICE cars and trucks.

  4. Starting Jan 1, 2024 all NEW cars sold in Alabama must have the bright dim switch placed back on the floor like in the 1950s. Turns out too many Alabama drivers getting their foot caught in the steering wheel – thanks senator Tuberville.

  5. Sticker price isn't the issue, range isn't the issue, cost to recharge isn't the issue…the issue you all avoid is.. can the electrical grid handle that much energy use and if so..how many nuclear or coal plants do you have to open?

  6. I love to see you going in this direction also . Please continue going until you reach Canada and then don't come back. I've seen enough of you and your creepy weasel red watery eyes to last a lifetime. I don't mind your views everyone is entitled to their own. It's the twisting of facts, the putting your words in others mouths then claiming that's what they mean, The holding of your enemies to ahigher moral standards than you hold yourself and those you support, The total applied blindness to your and those you support flaws, while critiquing every minute thing about others you don't agree with. Overall, you are untruthful , unfair, totally biased, manipulative, and dismissive of others. Not much good in there to even work with just a miserable, hateful , deceptive propagandist.

  7. The 2035 mandate won't happen. The technology is not good enough, especially in Canadian winters, the charging infrastructure is not there, and the cars are prohibitively expensive. Besides, when the conservatives get in at the next election, they will can it.

  8. Another overly ambitious statement simply used to gain favor. And then we have this dude saying that he backs the idea od throwing money at carbon emissions. As if that money sitting in an account makes the emissions disappear.

    Wow

  9. I’ve always said: the problem isn’t that we’re burning fossil fuels. It’s that we’re burning way too much of them. Forest fires for example are a natural occurrence in nature and have been going on for the entirety of earth’s life.

If only we would just change a few habits, we could keep the planner clean and keep our combustion engines.

First problem that comes to mind is the fact that everybody has to own a car. Why does everyone have to own a car? To get to where you’re going because you work 4 cities over. It’s absolute nonsense that businesses expect their employees to travel so much instead of just hiring more locally.

  10. Just shows again how ignorant you are because you can afford a new vehicle. What about the millions of us who can’t afford an electric car? Are you going to pay for mine. I currently am driving a 2004 SUV. I have to decide between groceries and medication. Obviously your are so jaded you forgot about the people living check to check to no fault of their own. Get a clue!

  11. It is not admirable when politicians get together and decide to make laws that don't apply to us, but the people who come after us are obliged to obey our orders.

  12. I'm sure paying for carbon will keep it out of the atmosphere…

Basic science, the carbon cycle. I learned it in 3rd or 4th grade. We have an atmosphere, this is an enclosed system. There is no more carbon here than there ever was, and it goes back to the earth in cycles.

The reason you are all worried about the climate is because someone told you to be for power and money: see carbon offsets.

  13. Canadian dictator justin trudeau is a tyrant…who needs to b put out of office…canada doesnt have the power infastructure because we are selling all our hydroelectric power to the us for pennies per kw hour…..

  14. I've never had EV, I never will have EV, & I don't believe your Pollyanna numbers & charge times. My brother's unbiased testimony, R&T articles & more, give me credible info on real life EV experiences. I have no idea how or why you are equating queers or blacks with my brother; I'm not queer or black, neither is my brother. Are you saying you admitting you're racist?
