Nuclear power stations should have been built 30 years ago instead of being frightened of the green mafia and not getting the job done.As for storage,I dont think insurance companies are very happy about houses being crammed with batteries.

And why are the French in such a good position to help us? Because being a nation with great respect for scientists, rather that pathetic PPE graduates, they embraced nuclear power. In fact, they have been running a fast breeder reactor, that produces more fuel than it consumes, for nearly 50 years!

Energy companies should be reinvesting profits into providing better services and cheaper energy to their captive customers, NOT handing them to senior executives and shareholders. If they cannot, renationalisation should be seriously considered

You cannot "store" electric produced by solar and wind, and both are intermittent in output, which means you have to have a backup load always on standby be that Gas, Nuclear or what there now using in some areas fossil fuel generators. Only in a country as woke and lacking in any vision on energy production as this one, would this idiocy go on. Sadly what ever hue your political colour is, they all are joined up to the same net zero agenda, no matter how much it costs, and how much misery and loss of industry it brings.
There is no safe way to store the required amount of energy. This whole movement is communist idealism and cannot stand up to reality.

Every decision being made by Ofgem is designed to increase the price of energy and keep it there for the next 25 years.
The ramping up of the standing charge to fund grid enhancement is just the start, they will continue these increases rapidly to pay for the ridiculous costs coming our way as the "National Grid" is just a shareholder funded listed company that will make billions in profits due the actions of the government and multiple quangos.
Energy will never be affordable ever again with these imbeciles in power- and that includes the Civil Serpents.

Gas, coal and oil. All of which we have a King's ransom of. Nuclear is also needed. Net zero is nothing more than a parody of the fable "The King's New Clothes."
One thing they missed out on here is the complete deregulation of the energy markets leading to higher prices as it's become so vulnerable to the oil price volatility. It might have allowed all sorts of companies to enter the market, but look where that got us.

This is absolute nonsense from people that don't know what they are talking about. The demand the whole of winter never went above 40GW and the capacity is 45GW normal generating capacity with a further 10GW on top of that to handle any unusual peaks in demand. So no, we're in no danger of blackouts. The French leccy is sold to us on the cheap because they use too much nuclear power, but then can sell the excess power that they produce to us because we are 1hour after them in time zones, which means our peak demand is offset by an hour. So we get that French electricity on the cheap. The wind power produces about 40% of our electricity, and it has been matched with closed cycle gas turbines which are cheap to build and very efficient. These CCGT gas turbines can fire up in minutes, so when the wind stops blowing the gas turbines kick in and there is no loss of power. Net zero has no impact on this – the plan behind net zero is to continue to use gas to generate electricity but to capture the CO2 at source and then pump it back under the ocean to where the natural gas came from in the first place, to stop it entering the atmosphere. This plan takes no account of the dwindling supply of gas and the increasing prices.
A good well managed, efficient, world class project management team could get a nuclear power station built in 6 years. The UK would be lucky to get it done in 9 years and no politician is gonna put the work into starting that project when they will never benefit from it.

I think its rather telling that our department for energy's name has been changing as green promises of energy affordability and energy security have met real world realities.
"Department of Energy and Climate Change" in 2008, the year of the Climate Change Act was passed which created the Climate Change Commetee.
"Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy" in 2016
"Department for Energy Security & Net Zero" just this year.
As can be seen this is more a PR exercise than actually changing policy.
Vote Reform UK for a secure and affordable energy policy which is realistic.
