Labour’s plans to reach Net Zero will cost £116 billion, new analysis has revealed.
Sir Keir Starmer’s pledge to decarbonise Britain’s electricity grid by 2030 will require more than £15.5 billion additional investment per year until the start of the next decade.
This is more than double needed over the same period to achieve net zero power by 2035, the Government’s current target.
Analysis by Aurora Energy Research, founded by academics from the University of Oxford, for Policy Exchange, found that decarbonising the UK’s power grid by 2030 would cost £116 billion over the next 11 years.
TalkTV’s Peter Cardwell is joined by Policy Exchange’s Iain Mansfield who says Net Zero can be met on a more “realistic timeframe” than Labour’s 2030 plans.

I was with him till he said the price of wind and solar are falling. This only worked in a non inflationary environment. This is due to the borrowing to build the stuff was ridiculously cheap. The time to order build and connect a new wind farm is measured in multiple years those borrowing cost are prohibitive.

THis is net zero madness. To turn off the gas plants and replace with renewables. Is still only dealing with the electric power we need now. So they need 100 Gigawatts. Of wind and solar that are 30% efficient. Energy dashboard shows we need 60 to 70 Gigawatts in Winter. Every day, so that means the capacityneeds to be 180 to 21 Gigawatts. All backed up with batteries at a cost of £20 trillions. Labour are energy dislexit and. Don’t know what intermittent means.
Net zero is not achieving anything worthwhile,apart from making certain people very wealthy
The more you look the more you realise no one has a clue about th massive scale of removing 80% of our energy. Electricity needed to replace fossil will be 300 Gigawatts. So we need 400 Gigawatts by 2050. This is impossible with majority renewables. and the backup with batteries is now agreed as too impossible and expensive at £30 trillion so gas stations are retained. To cover still days will need approx 600 power station in addition to 50 twin reactor nuclear. This is not realistic so not achievable. Our leaders do not have a clue. Energy and power are not considered together. Transport is 1,5 times the existing grid heating and hot water is 2.5 times that in winter. At present petrol diesel gas do all that so what happens when they are gone ????

All this net zero nonsense, when the reality is we have net zero intelligence in parliament, the media and the truth about climate change. Even if the UK went net zero (it's a made up number people) the climate will still change. We are going about this completely the wrong way.
Wind and solar energy is unreliable, battery tech is not advanced enough for storage and very expensive. This is why every country who's gone down the wind and solar energy path is struggling and getting foreign gas.
We need a plan thats achievable and can be affordable. Simple solution. We need to start fracking and use Profits to build nuclear power stations en masse. Start burning Coking coal and get are steel industry booming. Within a decade we can have self sufficiency in energy and steel. I'm mentioning steel as we are heading down a path of once again needing foreign countries for products we can make here in Britain. All down to this mythical net zero.
Then you build bigger flood defences, bigger drains, rain run offs to prevent flooding. Desalination plants for dry periods and you no longer have water shortages in some areas. Humans adapt, we always have. Sadly we have middle class people (some pretending to be working class) educated above their intelligence level pushing an agenda they clearly have no clue about and don't care about the consequences for poor people.
Since 1750 to 2023 UK emissions are only 3% globally (some claim 5%) and that is with the industrial revolution, which benefited the world. We're a tiny island and net zero is a load of nonesense.
Net zero is, probably, the stupidest government initiative I've ever heard. CO2 is approximately 420 parts per million. It's estimated that it's been well above 5000 ppm in the past without the climate going into runaway meltdown. Some scientists believe that CO2 increase is a result of higher temperatures, not a cause. CO2 is a plant food. The levels before industrialization were as low as 200ppm. Plants require at lease 150ppm to survive, showing how close to extermination we were. Here are some more figures: Human contribution to the atmospheric CO2 is estimated to me in the region of 3%, the rest, all 97%, coming from nature. Net zero and climate change are a scam making some people richer and impoverishing others. do your own research, I know it's hard with Google pushing the BS. Try listening to Willie Soon, Judith Curry, Dr Bjorn Lomborg. Prof. William Happer and Steven E. Koonin, Ph.D. Have a look at a You Tube video, Inconvenient Truth: 32 Climate Predictions Proven False. 32 times that 'scientists' predicted the end of the world with specific dates, that didn't happen. But I bet they all got their research grants renewed
How can England have net zero the plants need to co2i think that's what it is ,make oxygen if there is no co2 then the plants will start to die ,stop ,the USA , china, India they have 198, million people in the country ,stop Russia putting it in the atmosphere then biggest threat to humanity is still the population which is growing every day you have to house them ,feed them and find water for them the co2 is the not the main problem also we don't produce enough electricity in England to power what we have got now

If Labour get in then people of this country deserve all they get, every town and city could have a small nuclear power station, [British own by the way, not French EDF ] We could get rid of the windmills that blight our landscapes, Carbon capture, another white elephant, maybe build them and send them to China, the billions saved then could get our economy back up and running and get five million off the dole, and most importantly lower our over priced energy prices down?
