  1. What a breath of fresh air! Backer genuinely seems like a great person who not only humanizes both sides of the aisle but also encourages and believes that both sides actually can and are willing to come together to solve these issues. People like HIM need to be in positions of power.

  2. Conservation and "Climate Change/ Global Warming" are two different issues. No one wants a dirty environment. Whether human activity is warming the planet is a different question.
Why does the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere remain the same in spite of the fact that the human race is burning huge amounts of oil, coal, and natural gas? And why does the world temperature remain stable, the polar icecaps experience no net decrease, and the ocean levels remain the same? The answer to both questions is the same: photosynthesis. Plants LOVE CO2. In fact, some professional gardeners introduce additional CO2 into their green houses to enhance plant growth. Plants gobble up CO2 and sunlight ("heat " for you Ivy League students) and H2O and thus create more plant matter, locking away CO2, sunlight, and H2O for a season, in the case of grass and leave, or for decades or centuries, in the case of trees.
