The People’s Panel panellist Hugo says the Queensland opposition is putting all their eggs in “one basket” in their support of the state Labor government’s net zero targets.
Queensland’s greenhouse gas emission reduction targets will be enshrined in law after state MPs overwhelmingly backed the move.
Queensland will transition to 50 per cent renewable energy by 2030, 70 per cent by 2032 and 80 per cent by 2035 with the goal to become net zero by 2050.
Opposition leader David Crisafulli has refused to admit whether his decision to back in Labor’s emissions targets has caused division between state and federal LNP members.
“There needs to be a balanced mix and we need to be looking at what the solution is to produce the cheapest overall energy product for the state,” Hugo said.
“I don’t think that’s the wisest decision.”

Saw Malcolm Roberts last night speaking in Cairns. The only party to vote for, to oppose this, is One Nation. The Liberals around Australia have shown an absolute gift of being able to lose elections that were unlosable. I think they can pull that result off in the Queensland elections.
