Grattan Institute Energy Program Director Tony Wood discusses the think tank’s new report on Labor’s “ad hoc” and “uncoordinated” net zero strategy.
Mr Wood pointed out wind and solar energy are “incredibly useful” by themselves.
“But because they are intermittent, they need to be backed up with other things,” he told Sky News Australia.
“It’s the other things in the backing up that hasn’t been taking place in the way it should.
“At the same time, we haven’t been building the transmission grid – it’s necessary to connect all those renewables.”
