Talk’s Kevin O’Sullivan reacts to energy secretary warning Net Zero will crush businesses.
Claire Coutinho is set to warn against a green “leviathan of central planning” and argue that it should be the free market, instead of the state, that drives progress towards climate goals.
Businesses are being urged to take part in a major new census tracking the private sector’s progress towards the UK’s 2050 net zero target.
The national research initiative, backed by the Government, large corporates and business groups, will act as a definitive benchmark to help inform policy and drive change, according to its organisers.
The UK Business Climate Hub and sustainability certifiers Planet Mark said the aim is to gather the data every year to monitor the proportion of businesses taking action.
Kevin says: “A lot of British businesses are suffering”.

The energy policy should be both secure and efficient. Forget the green cultist religion, it will continue the path of sending our country to the poor house. An ever greater number of the population will end up in poverty following green policies.
I have told my MP, Claire Coutinho, a number of times – that net zero is a crazy idea, and whilst ever we have a net zero policy, we will not have any meaningful economic growth. Sadly, Laurie L doesn't get it – until we have huge storage capabilities (many decades away), wind mills and solar panels are a massive waste of tax payers money. And watch out for this next trick – the Climate C Committee (that unelected UK body making all this idiotic NZ policy) is thinking of dropping the term 'net zero' as it is not going down well as people wake up to the reality. If they do, they will come up with some other seemingly innocuous word or phrase. One thing I have learnt about the 'greens' – they are one crafty dishonest bunch.
Net zero – biggest scam ever
No, the main cause started back on the early 2000's with Tony Blair changing our energy path from GAS to NUCLEAR over to GAS to RENEWABLES. We then had consecutive governments following ill-thought-out Green policies which caused or energy system to be a unstable. The war in Ukraine was a tipping point, not the cause. Reliable energy sources are what we need, not unreliable ones. The plan to build new GAS POWER stations which was announced a month or so back, is an effort to dig us out of an almighty hole, while not letting the general public know they were the cause… 😤
Another delusional eco ideologue.
Look at what happens to these turbines when a storm hits.
Net zero- in the future you will own NoThInG and be HaPpY 😃
Sorry this guy is no expert at all a lot of our old housing stock are almost impossible to insulate properly, and wind and solar are not reliable so they have to have backup.
Either gas, coal or nuklear power
It's all part of the plan so we 'Own Nothing and BE happy! GREEN IS GREED!
Yes nuclear is the solution we need to put the funding aside for 10 more I'd rather that than nationalising water or railways which both have private companies that should be pumping there profits into rather than paying billions to there shareholders when they know they need investment
I'm sure the energy companies will be fine
Off shore wind requires 60% subs and is completely unreliable and battery storage is a miff and would cost a fortune and the biggest storage battery can only power a small town for 30 min.
Who pays for net zero Laurie? Oh I know the taxpayers! Paying to go back to the Stone age.
What about food security as well?
We're coming out of a cold period. It's going to get warmer. It's said that 300 years of science is coming to an end. But it isn't, we just had a hiccup. Science leads to the truth, be it re Covid, Climate change, or sexuality. Science points the way, money points another way. Money corrupts the weak and dictates to the power hungry at the expence of the general population.
At last an admission that this is a national security issue. Nothing to do with cheap energy, or the environment, it’s about keeping the lights on when we fall out with more countries as the world changes…
Net zero nonsense
Net zero is not doing anything for the economy.
We can achieve net zero tomorrow and nothing will change.
Who introduced Net Zero? It's way too little, way too late Ms Coutinho. Never vote Tory again.
National security is NOT a question of whether we have insulated our homes. It IS a question of whether we can have secure power supplies for industry, healthcare and the like
Net zero is a total climatic idiocy and at the same time will cripple the planet. It's not you nor CO2, it's the SUN …… that's why we
live in the ´´SOLAR SYSTEM´´…… blaming CO2 is one of the biggest hoaxes we came across…!!!
What other countries live off wind and solar at this point in time, welcome to the new 3rd world state and hello to Brazil, India, China, ….. the new is rising.
Businesses and people in general will only thrive with plentiful, cheap energy. This will never happen under Net-Zero!
Its all a massive gravy train scam , Geoengineering is being used among other things to generate the grand illusion of a climate emergency , it has a convergence of agendas within it , global military political environmental agricultural and totalitarian its going on you dont have to dig too hard to find evidence . Wake up , if you dare , if not i understand .
Read the book ‘ Green Tyranny ‘
Net zero is about us…physically about us..especially those of the male identified persona !
To help with Net Zero we should CUT all power to The House of Commons/Lords and All MPs Houses………………..we are a CARBON WORLD
"enshrined in law" never voted for it
Wind turbines and solars are destroying our beautiful countryside, so will all the pylons.
Our countryside is worth saving and anyway so called renewables won't provide enough electricity.
There is no climate crisis.
What about all the items we make from oil .
