Uncover the oil industry’s decades-long campaign to discredit climate change science regarding the danger of fossil fuels.
—
Throughout the 1980s, oil industry reps discussed the dangers of burning fossil fuels, acknowledging the risk their product posed to the future of humanity. However, instead of warning the public or pivoting towards renewable energy sources, they doubled down on oil — and launched a decades-long campaign to discredit climate change science. Stephanie Honchell Smith digs into Big Oil’s tactics.

I actually saw a guy turn on his kitchen sink water faucet and a flame came out ? YOU KNOW IT IS CALLED, " FIRE ". That makes zero sense. How it's from a pipe ? He had to abandon his own home for $ nothing. It could not be fixed. I would have found someone responsible like an executive and tied them to the faucet and then turned it on, and then left.
Thank you! 💚
Rational people embrace the concept of an environmental cost/benefit analysis. Fossil fuels has generated incalculable benefits for humanity and saved billions of lives. You're welcome.
Sadly most of the organisations which are supposed to inform people about anything bad affecting the future are always paid by huge corporations who are actually responsible, it's the same for fishing they are trying to tell us it's our fault with plastic straws when half of junk in the ocean are actually fishing nets used by the fishing industry. Honestly I stopped caring about it, it was to depressing, the world is done for the vast majority of people either do not want to believe it, do not care or do not know, and politicians only care about the next 4 years and anyway are in the pocket of big lobbies. It's one of the biggest curse of being educated because you realize how corrupt our system truly is and that there is truly not much you can do about it.
But well it's the story of humanity empires rise and fall, I truly hope in a thousand year we will have understood capitalism is unsustainable in the long term and we will change to a system where we can thrive sustainably.
I had a Nissan Leaf for years until a bad driver ran into and totalled my Leaf. 🙁
The discovery of oil peaked in 1964.
Since then discoveries have declined and demand has risen.
Now demand far exceeds supply.
Unsustainable
Imagine a terrible, nightmarish future where people don't starve, breathes clean air, drinks clean water and aren't poisoned by plastics and whatnot. Also, getting actual influence over their lives and are free from worrying about basic necessities, racism and sexism, as well as being safe from war and climate disaster. Who would want to live in such a hellish dystopia?????
Could somebody explain to me what caused climate change 10000 years ago? At time when the ice age ended.
The issue with ‘renewable energy’ is the cobalt material that conducts the tech and cobalt mining is child labor from Congo and other areas. The District of Columbia appeallate judges dismissed a class action lawsuit because the defendants were not considered owning an “enterprise” despite the damages the plaintiff sought can be directly traced to defendants: Apple, Tesla, and others.
also consider sulfur fluoride, Methane like heavy green house emission like from permafrost etc
Nobody will listen to us unless we go on a birth strike ladies it's all in your hands.
My problem with it the way the US goes about it. Is don't be coming at consumer vehicles and cow farts. Go into other carbon creaters like airplanes, cargo ships, and extremely large machinery that could easily hold nuclear generators similar to the ones subs us. Also realize we are a small fish in a large ocean when it comes to Co2 Emmisions… We are 350 million of over 7 billion.
one of the most meaningful vids, thanks page
I always thought that the worst person in the world was the one that decided that climate change and ecology was a thing for the left.
At least I'm closer to find out who they are.

Chess board at 01:50 is vertical instead of horizontal
renewable sources are ALSO largely just right people spreading propoganda to get rich. Does building solar panels and mining cobalt for batteries and making millions of batteries with caustic acids REALLY help the environment ? think about it
My comment to put this on top.

Believe in God not Ted. And you will be fine
Propaganda video about propaganda 🤷
The availability of cheap fossil fuel energy around the world has done more to improve the quality of life for more people around the world than any other thing. The amount of people in the world living in abject poverty has dropped by 50% in just past 40 / 50 years. The fact is that this is the result of more places around the world having access to low cost energy from fossil fuels. Only a few countries in the world that are wealthy enough to install enough wind turbines and solar panels Etc. to replace even 50% of fossil fuel generated power. It is a fact that if access to fossil fuel energy is removed from the poor undeveloped parts of the world such as much of Africa millions of people would suffer and die. What the climate alarmist propaganda does is to only tell you the "bad" things fossil fuels do. While ignoring all all of the "good" things fossil fuels do for mankind!
Question: Why are all of you people that think Oil companies are destroying the world.. still using Oil and natural gas for every day to live your life?? All you have to do is stop using electricity generated by natural gas and coal as well as stop putting gas in your cars??
This is nothing new. Too much power… Need goverments to step the f up.
this is probably one of the bravest video that they posted. Thank you, Ted Ed Team! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 These big companies should be held more accountable than the consumers they profit from.
I thought Ted-Ed doesn’t tell lies but after watching this video I have changed my mind.
Global warming is one big lie as is that we are told all the time we will be running out of water.
Thanks for explaining this 👍
Even though modern civilization is based on oil, the current status of Oil companies are questionable. They are not only the main destroyer of the environment also they tried their best to delay any alternative of fossil fuels. If you are wondering how monsters look like just look for the CEO's of the oil companies.
This is kind of irony to me when Oil companies mess with climate, as unlike smoking climate is a global issue. For example now any average person inhale microplastic when they breathe due to pollution of plastics in air, you can't get out of it even if you are rich or stay away from everything. Climate is a similar thing. It going to get everyone of us rich or poor.
There is no objective observational evidence that we are living in a global climate crisis.
The UN's IPCC AR6 WG1, chapter 12 "Climate Change Information for Regional Impact and for Risk Assessment", page 1856, section 12.5.2, table 12.12 confirms there is a lack of evidence or no signal that the following have changed:
Air Pollution Weather (temperature inversions),
Aridity,
Avalanche (snow),
Average precipitation,
Average Wind Speed,
Coastal Flood,
Agricultural drought,
Hydrological drought,
Erosion of Coastlines,
Fire Weather (hot and windy),
Flooding From Heavy Rain (pluvial floods),
Frost,
Hail,
Heavy Rain,
Heavy Snowfall and Ice Storms,
Landslides,
Marine Heatwaves,
Ocean Acidity,
Radiation at the Earth’s Surface,
River/Lake Floods,
Sand and Dust Storms,
Sea Level,
Severe Wind Storms,
Snow, Glacier, and Ice Sheets,
Antarctic Sea Ice,
Tropical Cyclones.

所以碳足跡是個話術嗎?
Why they don't ever talk about private jets , luxury cars or opulent life style of ultra rich people ??
These people doing more harm compared to the rest of middle class and poor people ..
And EVs are solution to this climate change 😂😂..
If some countrys would increase whale hunting they would need less petro chemicals and be less dependant on oil .
PR has become the most destructive weapon Science ever developed… The more Science is poured into it, the more we live in effective Oligarchies… But living in extremely complex societies nobody can truly understand, we might be trapped into not possibly ever knowing which actions cause which consequences, or which sources are purposefuly deceiptful and which are not…
You know, this is great, though I still see people as the UN & WEF like Klaus Schwab & his young global leaders emitting tons of carbon. "Rules for thee, not for me."
I love the idea of protecting the environment & nature, but we live in a competitive world & there are greater immediate costs then the environment. Leaving oil should not be done if it puts us at a disadvantage over hostile countries. Lets embrace advanced technology like nuclear which can give us an advantage. Also solar is good as well, panels are cheap & it allows for a decentralization of energy infrastructure making our societies more resilient & less dependent on government.
But I'm not going to get an EV until I can charge it just as fast as I can fill up a gas car, or if it has significant range increases over gas vehicles. My car can go nearly 1,000 KM on a tank at 112 KM/h. I would want an EV which can go about 1,500 but ideally 2,000 KM. I don't want to adopt a worse technology, I care about reliability & maintenance is hardly an issue with Honda's & Toyotas. Yes EV's in theory can be more reliable, but we have yet to see the adoption of robustly designed EV's that minimize complexity & are designed with a repairable approach. Why can I buy a super simply EV which is essentially a 4 wheeled electric scooter with ABS, traction control & AC? An electric drive train is far simpler then a gas one, so where are these simple repairable EV's that respect your privacy & ownership rights?
