Shalini is peculiar, however, seems to me she is also the only mentally evolved person out of the entire lot, she actually has a life she is happy with and a purpose to live a full life achieving whatever she sets her mind to. The rest are normal humans with their petty, shallow problems and in everyone's business, hence, they cannot digest Shalini.
