  1. Would be great if more (all) of the Everything Electric Show discussions / interviews (Giga Theatre) were available on-line for those who are unable to make the trip.

  2. China supports its industry but you guys are delighted to sacrifice UK industry. China has no technology edge in manufacturing, it just has low labour and materials costs so there will be no partnering at all. Plus it wont affect your jobs so its fine.

  3. Ev cars still need oil for the gear box grease plastic, which is also made from oil paints the electric running the factory it a transition, not a race can you imagine how much oil would cost if they didn't make petrol or diesel gearbox oil and plastic, because they are a side product if you turn off the oil industry tomorrow the ev car would die along with our economy.

  4. I wish Greg would roll out an EV charging network or partner with some of the existing ones. I am loving charging at home for 7p but that experience is sour when I have to charge away from home. We do have an EV, Solar, battery and ASHP so we are all in. From what I see outside the Tesla chargers BP are the biggest charging network where I travel but they want north of 80p per kWh. I understand there is VAT and there is a lot of investment to put these chargers out there but until we get the public chargers closer to 40p or less. An EV only makes sense if you can charge at home.

  5. Great post cast , octopus are going places. Not sure about heat pumps anymore, I've got them In my properties in Spain because of the heating and AC capacity. But I've just moved to a new place with direct resistance heating, it's just so much easier, no fans , pumps , pipes , radiators, no servicing, no safety checks, no gas pipes. All we need is a cheap tariff.

  6. Solar panel price came down because of the Chinese, and they are about to do the same to electric vehicles. So, why would that be a bad thing for the west? I would love to replace my ICE car with an electric vehicle that I can afford, at half the cost of a Tesla.

  7. I have gone all electric witth solar panels, a ground source hea pump and teo electric cars. My big question is how can you maintain supply when everyone has a heat pump and they are all drawing 2kw or so in the depths of winter with very little solar and a flat calm. The demand will be around 40GW all day. The storage we need for that would be of the order of tens of thousands of GWh. Even at say £50 per kwh of storage we are looking at hundreds of billions of pounds, maybe 5 HS2s worth. Furthermore the local distribution networks will need serious upgrades to supply 2 or 3 kw ro each home in a neighbourhood simultaneously. This problem absolutely dwarfs EV charging and, since heat pumps must be on all day, any kind of off peak tariffs won't work.

  8. EVs are great but progress on the grid is slow. I look on National Grid (I am Kate) site and the wind turbines produce electricity that doesn't seem to be stored on batteries yet. Pumped storage is I suspect historic and long established. Please tell me if I'm wrong. I would like to be wrong.

  9. I was at the Everything Electric show Farnborough for 2 1/2 days and actually sat-in on this talk.

Watching it back, and also my observations from the time that I was at the show, it is evident that the audience is 90% 40+ age group.

Also, from the asked question from the panel in many other talks that I attended, it seemed to me that the majority of attendees were already EV owners, had solar and/or storage batteries, and either had or were seriously considering having a heat pump installed.

They are preaching to the converted!

They need to focus on targeting the younger generations, sceptics , fence-sitters and the curious.

Also mp's and other influential people should be invited to join the panel on such talks so they can be quizzed by the public.

Manufacturers should also be targeted….those who were exhibiting there cars there were almost exclusively Chinese….a taste of change that is on the horizon for sure.

Kudos to Greg Jackson for taking time out of his Sunday to attend.

The number of attendees to the show was, in my view, disappointing.

  10. There are quite a few comments about heat pumps and their expense etc. I live in NZ and heat pumps have been the norm here for years, most households have them, and are compulsory if you are a landlord and rent the place out. In the winter it keeps our house snug and in the summer they cool the air, heat pumps are standard kit in this country.

  11. Toyota failed to grasp this basic idea, that ppl would rather put up with EV's limitations in the short term to enable them to fill it up with free sunlight at home rather than pay for hydrogen and very likely get extorted again. As much as I like Toyota its such a big and obvious mistake they deserve the Kodak outcome as do all other industries and governments that make the same one. Imagine the level of corruption in South Australia with both at once the most renewables but some of the highest electricity prices in the world.

  12. Great interaction with Greg. Incredible company that looks after its customers. Your social aspects of helping people in need is a credit to how you work. Please can you approve the Givenergy EV Charger for Intelligent Octopus Go.
