Alex Deakin talks to Nigel Doar, Head of Science and Research at The Wildlife Trusts to find out about there work protecting nature across the UK and a recent collaboration with the Met Office which looks at the impacts of climate change on our native and non-native species.
Also, Clare Nasir talks to Dr. Debbie Hemming, Scientific Manager, Vegetation-Climate Interactions at the Met Office about her research into the connection between climate change and poor tree health.

One example that was missed: in USA they're seeing rising rates of NON TRAVEL RELATED MALARIA. That means that wet areas of countryside have become host to malarial mosquitoes that thrive in changing climate. There are also cases of Degnue fever and West Nile virus in the USA. IThese are also spread by mosquitoes. think people need to be aware of examples of nature that are a big threat to humans. That would get more traction for the campaign than concerns about the larch tree (sadly).
The mild winters certainly effect hedgehogs, more don't hibernate at all or not for long periods, that's been my experience from helping hedgehogs in my garden for around 7 years.
So no benefit to wild life and plant life if temperture and co2 increases . Seems a very glass half empty view . Are nt Larches a planted timber an example of problems introduced mono culture when people know better than nature. . Dutch elm disease in the 1920 s and 1960 s and when I was young was a similar problem .
Really appreciate you covering this as the mainstream media have just ignored it over the last few years .

Kind of surprised that no one is talking about the implications of the collapse of the AMOC at the Met…or have I missed it?
The implications are so catastrophic for the UK and northern Europe that the AMOC and it’s fate should be on everyone’s radar.
Worrying about Pacific oysters and European oysters I totally understand but compared with mean temperature drops of 20C over the North Atlantic, they’re trivial.
Great stuff, we all need to do our bit. But it's not always obvious how to go about it, or what we should be looking at. Our own garden can be missed in these conversations. Thanks for the tips.

Very many Nigel Hoar, Alex, Claire and the other dear lady. Certainly a great eye-opener, I hadn’t thought so much about Climate Change giving drought conditions, I’d only thought of flooding, but either way each could bring about catastrophic consequences with plants and creatures.

Meanwhile the political class is hell bent on growth, instructing regulators to prioritise growth, and pumping money into a deeply dubious blue hydrogen scheme. Global emissions up, GHGs up, EEI up, GMST up, SST up, OHC up. The vibe of this episode is disturbingly relaxed. Great actual content and info though.
