New documentary ‘The Real Cost of Net Zero’ examines Australia’s energy transition goals

Sky News Australia will premiere an exclusive new documentary ‘The Real Cost of Net Zero’ on Tuesday 19 November at 8.00pm AEDT, presented by award-winning journalist Chris Uhlmann.
The documentary takes the most forensic look yet at the details behind Australia’s ambitious energy transition goals and follows a bombshell admission by the national energy regulator that it cannot guarantee the Albanese Labor government’s renewables energy plan will lower prices as promised.
Mr Uhlmann speaks to local and international experts in the renewables field to unpack the real cost of achieving 82 per cent renewable electricity by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2050, and just who will bear it.

Nuclear is the cheapest next to natural gas and coal.

With our land mass and natural resources Australia should be a superpower. For too long we have enabled corrupt government to squander our natural resources which belong to Australians, giving it away cheaply or in some cases paying subsidies for huge multinationals to come and take and even worse in some cases leaving the clean up after they’ve been here and taken it up to the tax payer. For too long we send more of our natural resources to other countries to forward their progress leaving nothing left for domestic use. Australians sit back while manufacturing leaves our shores and things have to be imported. Imagine if Australia started using its abundant natural resources to build a thriving economy, manufacturing, defence, agriculture, houses for everyone, good jobs etc the kind of place that’s conducive with home grown population growth instead of importing that too. One has to question the motives of anyone who aims to stifle that kind of progress. It’s a tyranny against the Australian people.

How can costs come down? Just heard today that VNI West in Victoria is going to cost $4 billion😢😢 and that is not compensating fairly landowners whose farms are going to be ruined. The costs to landowners businesses and their loss of property value is NOT being compensated. Compulsory land acquisitions are to be enacted and landowners are going to get a paltry payment of $8000 per transmission line kilometre acrosst their farms. Meanwhile, investors, the government and big multi national businesses walk away with billions funded by the consumer who has no sat in it.
