In Ethiopia, cities are well lit, allowing women, children, and families to walk safely at night and enjoy public spaces. In contrast, to sustain apartheid-era economic structures, our cities often resemble corridors of fear. For nearly thirty years, Johannesburg has been managed with all the care and attention one might reserve for an overfilled refuse dump.
