Future of Flood Control: How Sponge Cities Lead the Way

What is a sponge city? In this video, Professor Kongjian Yu of Peking University explains how this urban development concept works with water, rather than against it, to build more sustainable and flood-resistant cities. He likens this to doing tai chi with water, rather than boxing against it, and advocates for holistic, nature-based infrastructure rather than simply building walls to keep floods out. He has lent his expertise to over a thousand projects in cities in China, Thailand, and the US. He describes these projects as an investment, rather than a cost.
