Our planet is warming, ice sheets are melting, and oceans are rising at an alarming rate. Around the world, city dwellers are scrambling to stay afloat – by raising walls and buildings, rewilding land, and relocating to higher grounds. What are the most promising solutions, and are they coming fast enough to waterproof the future?

We’re destroying our environment at an alarming rate. But it doesn’t need to be this way. Planet A explores the shift towards an eco-friendly world — and challenges our ideas about what dealing with climate change means. We look at the big and the small: What we can do and how the system needs to change. We’ll take a truly global look at how to get us out of this mess.

Is sea level rise a concern where you live?
Obviously Not faster than ever before
All predictions of sea level rise have failed.
Keep guessing maybe someday you will be correct.
Now it's just a way for the rich to get richer by eliminating the middle class.
I'm in Wisconsin, USA, along the southwest shores of Michigami (meaning “big water” in Anishinaabemowin). I've been telling people that we are ground zero for climate migration. Our area is fairly climate stable and the Great Lakes are one of the largest sources of fresh water in the world. Fortunately, about 2/3 of the worlds population lives south of Siberia which, unless I'm very mistaken, is basically empty. That's why I'm always perplexed when people complain about immigration in the USA, hardly anyone lives out west ¯_(ツ)_/¯ More people live in the tiny state of Massachusetts than in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and both the Dakotas combined
Looking forward to seeing that neighborhood / City a reality.
Do you know what sea is due to the glaciers melting in Antarctica that’s why
Amazing content, as always ❤
Thank you for creating this.
It surprises me that countries do not tax on items that generate carbon to pay for the additional defences that need to be put in place.
😂 water rising 😂 who the daft doughboy is buying this 😂 , sheech Americans can come up with the stupidest junk ever 😂
0.14 inches per year.
That's the rate of sea level rise, just over 1/8 of an inch per year. It's been steady at that rate for ~200 years, except for locations where it isn't rising at all. Sublimation is a greater risk than sea level rise.
This is going to be bigger and bigger problem, for coastal cities and whole island countries
German Angst propagana. Nobody is preparing for rising sea levels
smart adaptation is underwater 🙄
The sea level has risen 1mm a year or bit more since ~1800. There has been no appreciable change over the years. Not an actual problem
This is complete fiction. I recently earned a masters where one of my major projects was developing a financial model to determine the effects of climate change and sea level rise over the next century. We used publicly available data and data from other published research. We found no evidence of sea level rise. What this video is showing you is a worst case senario based on scenarios that there is no evidence for. Furthermore we followed the money and found that there is hundreds of millions in funding granted to schools, organizations and companies to push out studies like this. The truth of the matter is that no one knows what will happen as the temperature rises not even the models my research group built. What we do know is that the ocean hasn’t risen on the whole even a single meter since we’ve been keeping records. For further evidence just look at Plymouth Rock. It was at sea level when the pioneers landed there and it’s at sea level today. The only time it’s not at sea level is when there is a storm surge.
The wildcard of sea level rise is if global warming changes ocean currents which could slow down sea level rise in some locations, but speed it up in other areas as changing ocean currents pile up water against the shore.
I am from Kolkata. A city which will get effected by sea level rise as soon as 2050.
And again with the misinformation. When several independent and neutral investigations are launched supporting this theory, only then will I believe you. But, current funding comes from organizations that live from this narrative, you don't even explain it's only a THEORY, not demonstrated. If this theory isn't true, they'll never tell us, so they don't lose their easy money.
I live in Manila Philippines as we also have a bay area in threat of sea level rise. Philippines also has a long coastline and there are many livelihoods living around it. I just wish there is a technology where we can radiate heat to outer space in a massive scale or harness them for neutrality.
If you believe this nonsense then your delusional. Yes ocean levels are rising but the government ain't helping the people and left them to fend for themselves to survive. The people are abandoned and politicians don't care if sea levels are rising as long as they're sucking you dry
Why trillion tons of metan which are being released to the aire due to melting permafrosts along the northern hemisphere is not discussed in the sea level changes?
Man made emissions are so little in comparison with those metan.
Sehr toll aufbereitet! Super interessant 👌🏼 Die Sprecherin hat eine absolut tolle Art zu sprechen, sehr verständlich und angenehm anzuhören ☺️♥️
No such thing as sea level rise. I live at sea in Sydney, and trust my liar eyes, not The Party.
4:52 White man with Indian accent 😯
Summary. All the ideas are only temporary solutions. Practical solutions have not been thought of yet.
Then why are big companies moving to Miami there close to the water? Retreat of glaciers is normal and they don’t cause sea level rise because they’re floating in the ones that don’t retreat are usually grounded Everything is a cycle lifecycle there’s nothing to be worried about glaciers are not melting. Those are old glaciers falling off into the sea and usually grow back because of snowfall I’m not so sure but the last time I checked 32 Fahrenheit, which is the freezing point of water. I’m looking around on the temperature map Antarctica and cold places like the Arctic and it below 32°F so y’all I think we’re ❤❤❤
It’s so weird seeing a white man speaking English in an Indian accent.
