  1. awesome video m8, all the legacy media reports on is the "human story" of the floods as if they're a way bigger deal than they are. just negativity instead of broadcasting this amazing natural wonder. i wonder if lake eyre could fill up to the extent that it overflows, and where that overflow would be. i remember reading that original dutch explorers found an inland sea that was probably much bigger than lake eyre. anyway thanks for covering this

  2. When Lake Eyes is filled, fish appear in it in great numbers. Pelicans migrate to Lake Eyre from the coast at these times to feast and produce multiple generations of chicks. No one knows how they know when to come. They leave when the fish stocks run low and the lake evaporates. They leave behind all unfledged flightless young to die in the outback sun.

  3. The water that flows down Strzelecki Creek into Lake Blanche wont make it into Lake eyre. The volume required to overflow is about 10 times the largest flood ever recorded, although it did happen in the middle of the last ice age when evaporation rates were much lower.

  4. The Strzelecki Creek flows into Lake Blanche, as a distributary (opposite to a tributary where a river splits) of Cooper Creek.
Cooper Creek flows south west towards Lake Eyre, to the south of the Warburton river

  5. Well, it is not exactly a secret, the ABC in Oz covers the flooding as it heads SW. Not an unusual occurrence, just not very frequent. I visited the area in '76 when the levels were dropping from being full in '74. Minor floods arrive there every decade or so.

  6. It's quite a sight to see it, I was lucky enough to get out there to take a flight from Maree over the lake to where the Warburton River flows into it, that was in June 2019, I think that it has had water in since then, I drove out there last year and the year before to see the water in it.

  7. Thank you. The rain was drawn from the cyclone that came from Western Australia, Broome, or Karratha. It created a syphon as it travelled across Central aus. Old larapinta River possibles ancient days. That same system from western Australia cyclone travelled all the way out to New Zealand. Quite impressive. It's elnina weather pattern. Moisture from indian Ocean travelled back across aus, maybe next year Victoria and nsw will be more affected from past cases. Prepare your dams now, cos after this elnina, it's drought. This is a approx 2 yr window. Then like 10yrs drought.

  8. This does happen everytime it rains, just some years it doesnt quite fill all the way up but every year it fills and emptys due to the seasonal rains. This year was different because of the amount of rain we received thats all good video though
