Loss & Destruction! as tornadoes hits several parts of US, recovery work begins

An unstable spring weather system spawned powerful tornadoes in US Midwest & Ohio River Valley. Killing at least 25 people in Kentucky & Missouri and causing widespread damage to homes and property. Meanwhile, the recovery work has been started after tornadoes ripped eastern Kentucky. A tornado also wreaked havoc in St. Louis, where in addition to killing at least five and injured 38 damaging properties. Tornadoes ripped across a large swath of US Midwest & Great Lakes, officials said on May 17. In Kentucky, at least 14 people were killed and the death toll was expected to rise, said Governor Andy Beshear. Earlier Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency in his state, as did Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe. The National Weather Service reported widespread thunderstorms across the Mississippi, Tennessee, and Ohio Valleys on May 16. At least six tornadoes hit Missouri and Illinois, with severe weather reaching the Atlantic Coast, including New Jersey. US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said she spoke with the governors of Missouri, Kentucky, and Illinois.
