Bengaluru Underwater! 6-Hour Rainfall Brings City to a Halt

Bengaluru witnessed its heaviest rainfall of 2025 so far, with over 6 hours of relentless downpour from the night of May 18 to the morning of May 19. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heavy rain alert as areas like Kengeri (132 mm) and Vaderahalli (131.5 mm) recorded staggering rainfall. The city-wide 24-hour average stood at 105.5 mm. Iconic junctions like Silk Board, Bommanahalli, and HRBR Layout were flooded, leaving traffic stranded and roads submerged. Low-lying areas turned into mini lakes, while social media exploded with images and videos of the urban chaos. Officials from the Karnataka State Disaster Monitoring Cell confirmed the rainfall intensity, calling it a rare extreme weather event.
