In India, disaster resilience is taken care of by the National Disaster Management Authority through mitigation, response, recovery, and reconstruction. But most often, disaster response is done after the fact, and very little work is done on pre-emptive risk reduction. The finalist teams have put in a lot of effort to bridge this gap. They have tried to understand the vulnerabilities of the communities, and proposed solutions that are collaborative, innovative, and sustainable.
